EMDR is offered at Sanctuary Clinics in correlation with other forms of treatment, education, and counseling, providing patients with an effective means of accessing memories which trigger distress and addressing the negative thoughts and responses associated with them.
EMDR therapy at Sanctuary Clinics’ has been an extremely helpful component in several patients’ overall treatment plan. Could it be right for you?

What is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy is an integrative psychotherapy approach proven effective for the treatment of trauma. EMDR uses your own rapid, rhythmic eye movements to reduce the distress of emotionally charged memories of past traumatic events. EMDR creates new neuropathways to bring healing … and hope.

How Does EMDR Work?
Unlike traditional treatments which address only the symptoms, EMDR directly attacks the root cause of your emotional pain, addressing the problem at its source. When traumatic events happen, your brain can’t process the memories normally. These unprocessed thoughts become associated with pain, anger, fear, and emotional distress.
Unfortunately, if these emotional associations are not broken, you will continue to experience the same distress over and over. EMDR allows you to access and process these memories, breaking once and for all their hold on you.
